Katarzyna Zawalińska has been cooperating with CASE since 1998. She is a Senior Researcher and a Research Director at the Polish Academy of Sciences in the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Warsaw University (2003) and a MPhil in Development from Cambridge University, UK (2004). Her research interests focus on regional CGE modeling and policy evaluation of rural development, regional and agricultural programs with the use of advanced statistical and econometric methods. She was on a Post Doc at the University of Helsinki (2006/2007) where she started working with Prof. Hannu Törmä on adapting Finnish regional CGE model for Poland (RegPol), which now works for all 16 NUTS2 regions. She participated in many projects, from scientific (e.g., a.o. on structural policy, indicators of sustainable consumption (UNEP), integrated development of rural areas (EC), etc.) to evaluation projects (e.g., the EU PHARE, EQUAL, and the World Bank Rural Development Project).  She has also been involved in FP5 and FP6 projects.  She is the recipient of several awards granted by institutions such as the British Council, the World Bank, the Polish Ministry of Higher Education and the Polish National Weekly "Polityka".  Her list of publications includes numerous articles and book chapters.
