An Ambitious Development Plan
CASE's ambition is to become a leading European research center. EU enlargement enables CASE to compete for European research and advisory contracts as a member-state based institution. This provides us with a unique opportunity to apply what we have learned from working in post-communist nations to a broader range of countries and regions. CASE experts who have authored reform strategies in post-communist countries and initiated debates on the future of economic reform in Europe and worldwide are well-equipped to respond to new challenges in less developed regions like Africa, Asia and Latin America.
In recent years CASE has developed new areas of research in response to changing dynamics in the EU and worldwide. Its research agenda has expanded to include financial crisises, the consequences of globalization, analyses of success and failure of reforms in different regions, and evaluation of international aid for transition countries. The unique experience that CASE has gained in post-communist economies gives CASE a leading position among European institutes in areas requiring both theory and international practice. A significant record of success in competing for long-term EU framework programs confirms this research and organizational capacity.
An increased role in the European research sector will be accompanied by greater activity in our home country. In addition to research projects financed from Polish public sources (Committee for Scientific Research, KBN) and the European Commission, CASE will organize conferences and economic seminars and other initiatives to popularize knowledge of economics among non-economists. Our own publishing series will continue to disseminate theoretical works in economics and reports from CASE researchers. Polish Economic Outlook - Trends, Analyses, Forecasts, a regular analysis of the economic situation in Poland combined with a presentation of key economic indicators, will continue to be our signature publication. CASE will continue its involvement in key debates concerning reform projects in Poland. The development of a cadre of young researchers is another long-term priority of the Center.
