Partnership for Corporate Governance and Secondary Privatization in Transition

[ January 2003 - January 2004 ]

The project entitled Partnership for Corporate Governance and Secondary Privatization in Transition was funded in the framework of the Regional Think Tanks Partnership Program by IRIS Center of the University of Maryland and BearingPoint, Inc. under a contract with USAID.

The partners involved in the project included CASE - the Center for Social and Economic Research, the Institute for the Economy in Transition (IET) in Moscow, Russia, and the Staffordshire University Business School (SUBS) in the UK. CASE's team was led by Prof. Barbara Blaszczyk and also consists of Dr. Piotr Kozarzewski and Dr. Richard Woodward. Work consisted of preparation of a report comparing trends in secondary privatization (that is, post-privatization changes in the ownership structures of privatized enterprises) and their relationship to the quality of corporate governance in selected transition countries, with particular attention to Poland and Russia. The research results were disseminated widely by all the partners in English, Polish, and Russian through public seminars, publications and the Internet.

On December 12, 2003, a round table Corporate Governance in Poland and Russia: What Have We Accomplished And Where Are We Going? was held in Warsaw (follow the link for the program and the papers presented). The similar round table also took place in Moscow on January 16, 2004.
