Poland: Barriers Encountered by Rural Women in Benefiting from their Rights

Barriers Encountered by Rural and Small-town Women in Benefiting from Rights Accorded to Them (Bariery napotykane przez kobiety wiejskie i z małych miejscowości w korzystaniu z przysługujących im praw) was a project in cooperation with the Secretariat of the Government Office for Equal Rights for Women and Men.
Coordinator of the project carried out in the period of December 2002 and May 2003 was Anita Zarzycka, participants were: Bogna Gawronska-Nowak and Jaroslaw Jura.
The questionnaire-based research, conducted on a sample of 250 women living in the Swietokrzyskie Voivodship, helped in defining and classifying the barriers, which prevent rural and small-town women from fully benefiting from their citizens' rights, such as access to tertiary education, unemployment and social security benefits and to programs designed to counter unemployment.
The report, containing alongwith the analysis of the barriers, recommendations concerning the shaping of socio-economic policy on several levels of government and aimed at removing these barriers, was passed to the Secretariat of the Government Office for Equal Rights for Women and Men.
