Description:

The aim of this study was to analyze the implications of a potential EU-Russia free trade agreement, exploring options ranging from shallow liberalization based only on the elimination of tariffs to a comprehensive FTA including harmonization of legislation and changes in domestic policy such as energy reform. The report includes a discussion on the present trade and economic EU-Russia relations, non-tariff barriers to trade and impediments to cross-border provision of services and foreign direct investment in Russia. The economic impact of various scenarios for an FTA are assessed based on a computable general equilibrium model. The report constitutes a comprehensive analysis of the likely impact of an EU-Russia FTA on the parties involved and their trading partners.

The final study,  Economic Feasibility and General Economic Impact of a Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and the Russian Federation was presented by representatives of the CASE team to the EC on July 7th, 2007.
